NW 3 u3 Reading comprehension On Facebook there is group called „Expats in Basel. Expats are people from other countries who decided to live in Switzerland. asked them to write about their culture gap experiences. Here are some of the responses received. Suzanne McConkie Lucas wrote: When my son was in kindergarten his teacher informed me that it was too late in the year to wear short sleeves. It didnt matter if he was warm or cold, the magical date had passed and it was long sleeve time. When my son was having trouble with the class bully (the boy who terrorizes the other children), the teacher solution was for my son to take karate lessons so he could fight back. That would never happen in an American school. Overall, like the Swiss school system, but there are enormous differences. Some are good. For example, in kindergarten, my son made bomb out of carton. In America, the teacher would call the police and my son couldnt go to school anymore! In Switzerland, his teacher just taught him the German word for bomb, and everyone went on with their day. That is so much better than the American system. Stephanie Wimmer-Davison wrote: My English relatives were totally horrified when my son started walking to Kindergarten alone when he was 5 years old. For them was very uncaring mother. Kids get taken to school (by car or by bus) often until age 12 in the UK. My son childhood has been closer to the one enjoyed growing up in the UK during the 70. think for young kids life is better in Switzerland. Louise Paul wrote Here are some things that found strange in Switzerland: 1. No noise after 10pm (22:00 Uhr), and before 7am (07:00 Uhr), including using appliances, flushing the toilet and taking shower. have this written in my contract. 3. No working on Sunday!!!
