On Valentines Day you can send cards to people you love or like lot. But you dont put your name in the cards: the person has to guess and to find out who the card is from! People in Britain also send flowers and small presents to each other on Valentines Day. The person you send your card to is called your Valentine. Most people send Valentine cards just for fun. In England and France Valentines Day was already the day of lovers in the Middle Ages. The custom of Valentines Day also appeared later in America, of course. There the day of lovers became the day of friend- ship and family. In America large number of cards are sent every year. Today the Valentines Day is also quite important in Germany and Switzerland. In the shops there are lots of different things to buy and to give away so as Valentines cards, Valentines chocolates, cuddly hearts and even perfume with the name Saint Valentine.
