Juno – Summary and Worksheets General information about the film: Juno (Juno), USA 2007, 96 Minutes Available on DVD, or easily downloadable ;-) Main Topics which can be discussed with pupils: Teenage-pregnancy Abortion Divorce Message of the Film. Short Summary: Juno MacGuff, smart teen confronting an unplanned pregnancy by her classmate Bleeker. Very shocked, Juno has to face big problems which pregnancy brings whith it. Juno couldnt decide for an abortion. (In the film ists not really clear why) So Juno decides to give birth to the baby and to give the baby for adoption. With the help of her best friend Leah, Juno finds her unborn child perfect set of parents: suburban very rich couple, Mark and Vanessa. Theyve been trying to get children for their whole life, but couldnt. Juno has the total support of her parents as she faces some tough decisions, she flirts with adulthood (especially whith Mark) and eventually figures out, that she is still child. Juno is going trough lot of feelings. Not only is she in love with two different men, she is also in very difficult situation about her pregnancy and its upcoming questions about abortion and adoption, which is really tearing her down. Luckily there are some good freinds and very good and appreciative parents – which is, probably, not real life situation! Activities which can be done with pupils: 1. Intoduction to the topic of teenage pregnancy: To make the introduction more fascinating and more imaginable, it is good to show short extract of the movie. (7:00 to 10:30) At ten minutes and thirty seconds stop the film and start discussion with your class: A) In pairs Imagine this situation in your life! Work with partner (of the other sex). One of you is the (future) father and the other one is the mother. Now prepare discussion/dialouge about what to do. 1 Following questions can be considered: 1. How do you feel and react? 2. What would/can you do? Collect some examples in class Is teenage-pregnancy an actual problem nowadays? (Discussion in Class) Is an unborn Baby allready human beeing? (Discussion in Class) 2.
